New direction for Regional Australia announced by Minister for Infrastructure, Transport,
Regional Development and Local Government, Anthony Albanese

The 2008-09 Budget delivers a new direction for regional Australia, with a $176 million Better Regions program and up to $74 million for the Regional Development Australia network.

A new Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program will supplement these programs from next year's Budget and fund major investments in regional communities.

New Chair appointed to Northern Territory Area Consultative Committee

The Minister for Transport and Regional Services Warren Truss has appointed Mr Col Fuller as the Chair of the Northern Territory Area Consultative Committee.

For 17 years, Mr Fuller served as Chief Executive Officer of all major infrastructure and business-oriented Northern Territory Government departments. He also has extensive experience in the Australian Public Service having held postings in Canberra, Port Moresby, Townsville and Darwin.

Mr Fuller joined the Northern Territory Public Service at its inception. From 1982 he continuously filled the role of CEO and Secretary of a range of Departments and Agencies including Department of Chief Minister and Cabinet, Transport and Works, Port Authority, Power and Water Authority, Primary Industries, Mines and Energy, Industry and Business, Lands and Housing, Parks and Wildlife and Conservation Commission.

He served on all of the Ministerial and Advisory Boards associated with the above agencies. He also served on a wide range of development orientated boards including Jabiru Town Development Corporation, Palmerston Development Authority, Darwin Port Precinct Development Committee, Carpentaria Gulf Strategic Development Committee, NT Business Consultative Council, Northern Territory Development Corporation, Trade Development Zone Authority, Northern Territory Tourism Council, Territory Loans Management Corporation and Investnorth.

Mr Fuller retired from the NT Public Sector in 1999 and was made a member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his lifetime of service.

Rural Transaction Centres Bring $870,000 to NT

The latest round of Grants under the Rural Transaction Centre (RTC) program was recently announced.

The communities of Galiwinku, Yuendumu and Nauiyu Nambiyu (Daly River) will benefit from improved or new services to be delivered through their proposed RTC’s.
